Reports: Sepp Blatter Suspension Recommended By FIFA Ethics Committee

According to Sky Sports reporter Paul Kelso, the investigations arm of the FIFA Ethics Committee has recommended as punishment for FIFA President Sepp Blatter suspension served over 90 days.  The suspension still needs to be confirmed by judge Hans Joachim Eckert, the chairman of FIFA's adjudicatory chamber.

Ninety days is the longest suspension the committee is able to hand down during their investigation of Blatter, Sky Sports reported.

With or without the suspension, Blatter will only be FIFA President for a short while longer. He announced in June that he would step down at an "extraordinary congress" to pick his successor, which has been set for February.

Sepp Blatter Suspension Amid Investigations

In addition to the FIFA Ethics Committee, Blatter is also under investigation by the Swiss Attorney General's office.

If Blatter is in fact suspended, the 90 days will cover most of the time between now and the date scheduled for him to leave office. The deadline for his possible successors to submit their candidacies is Oct. 26.

FIFA's trouble began when the U.S. Attorney General's office befan investigating the organization, leading to the arrest of several high-ranking FIFA executives. Blatter has managed so far to avoid actual legal consequences until the suspension was announced.
