Player Breaks Girlfriend's Wrist With Warm-Up Shot…But She Doesn't Tell Him

Exeter City's David Wheeler owes his girlfriend some flowers and chocolates and other assorted gifts for what happened this weekend before, during and after Exeter's League Two match against Northampton Town.

Wheeler sent an errant warm-up shot into the stands, where it hit his girlfriend, Alice Woodyatt, breaking her wrist.

Here's the crazy part: she stayed to watch the whole match before going to the doctor.

“David didn’t know the ball had hit me and I didn’t want to make a fuss," Woodyatt told The Sun. “I didn’t realise how bad it was straight away so I sat and watched the first half but by the second half I thought maybe something had happened."

If we are being completely honest here, we have left matches for far less pressing matters, so kudos to Alice Woodyatt, but goodness, see a doctor!

“My wrist was swelling. I was in the away fans’ section and I think a few of them saw. Then a couple came up to me and asked me if I was OK but I played it down," Woodyatt said. “People are amazed I stayed to the end but David has been playing well and I wanted to watch him no matter what.”

That last part is likely an exaggeration, as Exeter lost 3-0.

“I’m amazed that Alice managed to watch the whole game in that much pain," Wheeler said. “I’m very fortunate that she is so supportive of my career.”

They both seem oddly composed about the whole situation. Good for them. If this incident didn't break them up (sorry!) nothing will.
