After the final whistle blew in Berlin, millions of Barcelona fans around the world celebrated their fourth Champions League win in the club's history. As those fans overflowed the teams website to purchase champions scarves, t-shirts, and posters, Gerard Pique took a souvenir of his own from the pitch that is simply priceless.
All cameras focused on the Spaniard as he cut each link of the net from the goal frame and draped it over his back like a cape. In this fashion, reminiscent of the net cutting tradition in baskeball, many thought he would hang it with the rest of his career accolades over the years to mark this momentous occasion: winning the Champions League for the fourth time.
The real reason has finally been surfaced.
According to Twitter handle @barastuff, “Pique gave the CL final net to a friend, who’s wedding he had to miss due to ESP games. Wedding guests all got a piece of the net”.
One of his closest, lifelong friends would not be able to be with Pique during his big day, but the Barcelona defender’s gift would surely make up for his absence. Just another reason to love Gerard Pique.
