Behold the two greatest goals of 2025: FIFA reveals Puskás and Marta award winners

The two winners for the best goals of 2025 were announced on Wednesday as FIFA’s Puskás and Marta awards were given out.

The Puskás award is given to the best goal scored by a men’s player in a calendar year, while the Marta award goes to the women’s player with the best finish. Let’s meet our 2025 winners.

Best goals of 2025 winners

On the men’s side the Puskás award winner was revealed to be Independiente’s Santiago Montiel. The 25-year-old netted an insane game-winner during a playoff match in Argentina.

Montiel attempted an audacious bicycle kick from outside the penalty box and raised the roof off Independiente’s Estadio Libertadores de América.

2025 Puskás Award

A deserved winner. Congratulations to Montiel. He beat out the likes of Lamine Yamal and Declan Rice who were also nominated for the award.

The Puskás winner is determined by vote, with 50% being from fans and then a panel of experts plus former players contributing the other 50%.

Montiel can claim he scored the best men’s goal of 2025, however we’re not so sure if he can say he had the best goal of the calendar year. That’s because former Tigres star Lizbeth Ovalle’s goal is THAT good.

Don’t get us wrong, the technique required for Montiel’s goal was world class. However, Ovalle scored a goal unlike we’ve ever seen before.

2025 Marta Award

How Ovalle managed to pull off this stunner remains a mystery to us. “A back-heel no-look volley” is a phrase we’d never uttered prior to Ovalle’s masterpiece.

Call us crazy, but we’re going to cast our vote to Ovalle for the best goal of 2025. Both players will still take home silverware from the 2025 FIFA Best Awards.

Ovalle had quite a year as she also broke the record for the most expensive transfer in women’s history with a $1.5 move from Tigres to Orlando Pride.
