USMNT’s Haji Wright sends Championship side Coventry City to FA Cup semi final with incredible last-minute goal

Haji Wright just cemented himself into the history books of EFL Championship’s Coventry City.

In what was perhaps the craziest matches (and endings) to a match that we’ve seen this year, the American Haji Wright took over all headlines after scoring a last-minute winner to send his team to the FA Cup semi-finals for the first time in 37 years. They’re going to Wembley.

Wright’s goal came at the 100th minute of added time and just three minutes after he had been involved in the play that saw Ellis Simms' stunner that was to push the game to extra time.

These two late goal contributions from the USMNT striker at the death came shortly after two goals from Wolves in the 83rd and 88th minute that pinned Coventry to the ground in their effort to complete a historic cup run. That was until Wright took matter into his own hands.

See it to believe it.

The American striker is completing an outstanding individual season for the Sky Blues, scoring his 15th goal of the 2023/24 campaign since making the transfer to the England side from Turkey’s Antalyaspor last summer. 20 goal contributions in 35 matches.

Despite his notable goalscoring season, Wright has not received a call-up for any of the USMNT’s camps in the last year.

The 25-year-old played his last game for the USMNT at the 2022 World Cup, scoring the only goal in the national team’s 3-1 loss against Netherlands in the round of 16.
