Manuel Neuer is just as important to soccer’s history as Lionel Messi, claims Mario Gómez

Former Germany and Bayern Munich striker Mario Gómez provided fans with a scorching hot take and interesting debate.

Appearing on the podcast “Phrasenmäher”, Gómez made the argument that Manuel Neuer’s legacy is just as important to the sport as Lionel Messi’s.

"I would put Manuel Neuer on the same level as Messi in terms of importance in football history," Gómez said. "I don't know if we're all aware of what we experienced with a goalkeeper who revolutionized the game! We'll only understand this 20 years from now."

Does Gómez have a point?

Mats Hummels throws shade at Premier League after Arsenal and Man City UCL exits

Star Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels couldn’t resist poking fun at the Premier League’s woes in Europe this week as four different EPL teams crashed out of their respective competitions.

Arsenal and Manchester City both suffered quarterfinal exits in the Champions League while Liverpool and West Ham fell short in the Europa League.

EPL fans have mocked the Bundesliga and other leagues for years now with the term “farmer’s league.” The joke is an insult about the league not being competitive as one team always wins it and overall, the league being worse.

MUNICH — Bayern Munich's Joshua Kimmich powered in a 63rd-minute header to give the Germans a 1-0 victory over Arsenal in the Champions League on Wednesday and send them through to the semi-finals for the first time in four years with a 3-2 aggregate win.

Germany international Kimmich timed his run into the box perfectly to connect with a Raphael Guerreiro cross and put Bayern, who had earlier hit the woodwork twice from a double chance, in the driving seat following a 2-2 first-leg draw.

LONDON – Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane returned to north London to score his customary goal against Arsenal as the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie ended 2-2 on Tuesday.

The former Tottenham Hotspur player, so often Arsenal's nemesis in north London derbies, stroked home a penalty in the 32nd minute as the Bundesliga side hit back to lead 2-1.

Premier League leaders Arsenal, playing in their first Champions League quarter-final for 14 years, had gone in front early on with a clinical Bukayo Saka strike.

Thomas Tuchel admits defeat and says Bayern’s Bundesliga title race is over

MUNICH — Bayern Munich's Bundesliga title hopes all but evaporated after a 2-0 home loss to Borussia Dortmund on Saturday left them 13 points behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen with seven games remaining.

Bayern, winners of the previous 11 league crowns, were inefficient in attack and their first shot on goal came late in the second half, with usually deadly striker Harry Kane having earlier missed their best chances.
