We learned all about the goodness of the Australia Cup last year when semi-professional side Sydney United 58 managed to reach the final, and the 2023 edition is off to a flying start in the preliminary rounds.

On Wednesday, Canberra Olympic FC played Tuggeranong United in the Canberra region of qualifying, and the action was so enthralling that a mob of kangaroos watched on from the touchline. 

Ronaldo receives hilarious yellow card during rough night

Cristiano Ronaldo's Al-Nassr beat Abha 3-1 in the King's Cup on Tuesday but it was a disappointing night for the Portuguese forward, who failed to score, received a yellow card and was substituted for the first time since his move to Saudi Arabia.

Ronaldo failed to score for the third consecutive game and is yet to open his account at Al-Nassr stadium.

Cristiano Ronaldo was less than pleased after Al Nassr lost 1-0 to Al-Ittihad on Thursday. The result saw Al-Ittihad leapfrog Al Nassr to go top of the Saudi Pro League table and left Ronaldo in a sour mood.

The home crowd for Al-Ittihad found a way to get under Ronaldo’s skin as they repeatedly chanted “Messi” at him. The chant worked to great effect as the Portuguese star was kept off the score sheet and visibly annoyed.

At one point Ronaldo could be seen making hand gestures to the Al-Ittihad fans expressing his displeasure with their chants.

Syrian boy fulfills dream of meeting Cristiano Ronaldo after surviving earthquake

A boy from Syria who told rescue workers after a devastating earthquake in February that he wanted to meet Cristiano Ronaldo came face to face with his idol on Friday after being invited to watch his club Al Nassr play in Saudi Arabia.

Nabil Saeed made the request to rescue workers in Syria in a video shared on social media last month following the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria on Feb. 6.

More than 50,000 people have died as a result of the quake. The death toll in Syria is more than 5,900, authorities said.

Can China actually qualify for the 48-team 2026 World Cup?

Newly appointed China head coach Aleksandar Janković is aiming to guide the Asian country to qualification for the 2026 World Cup, the Serbian said, adding that the team has room for improvement.

Despite major government ambitions for the team, China have qualified for the World Cup only once in 2002 when they lost all three of their group matches and failed to score a goal.

Klinsmann targets 2026 World Cup glory after returning to managerial role

Jürgen Klinsmann has been named head coach of South Korea, the country's football association said on Monday.

Former Germany coach Klinsmann replaced Paulo Bento, who stepped down following South Korea's defeat by Brazil in the World Cup last 16 in December.

The Korea Football Association (KFA) said Klinsmann had signed a contract until the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
