Stanford women’s soccer team survived a thrilling 1-1 (4-2) penalty shootout victory vs. Arkansas in the NCAA DI women’s soccer championship tournament on Sunday but had a bizarre moment at the end of the first half.

Stanford trailed in the first half of the Round of 16 matchup and thought they had scored an incredible equalizer in the stroke of halftime.

Junior forward Lumi Kostmayer took a beautiful shot from 25 yards out that beat the goalkeeper and nestled into the back of the net. There was only one problem: the clock had hit 0:00 milliseconds before the ball went in.

Argentina side Deportivo Riestra are facing a tidal wave of backlash after they pulled a publicity stunt of starting a popular YouTube influencer in their Argentine Primera División game on Monday.

The club, who sit ninth in the table, named YouTuber and Twitch streamer “Spreen” as their starting striker. Spreen, whose real name is Ivan Buhajeruk, has no experience playing the sport but was put in a professional team’s starting XI.

Nov 9 (Reuters) - Triestina coach Pep Clotet defended himself after he angrily confronted his red-carded player Raimonds Krollis during a Serie C game on Friday, saying his actions were merited due to the nature of the challenge.

Krollis, who joined Triestina on loan from Serie A club Spezia in August, was shown a red card for hitting out at an opposing player in the 34th minute of a 1-0 defeat to Giana Erminio.

South America takes their soccer incredibly seriously. Look no further than Monday’s derby match between Corinthians and Palmeiras where the home fans threw a severed pig’s head onto the field while Palmeiras were taking a corner kick.

The heated rivalry between the Brazilian clubs is no joke. How someone managed to smuggle in a pig’s head is beyond us, but the disgusting object was lobbed onto the field in the 29th minute.

A player in Thailand learned the hard way that celebrating too early can lead to catastrophic results. And by catastrophic we mean hilarious.

A video from a 7-on-7 game in Thailand has gone viral after a player started celebrating a goal before the ball had gone into the net. The youngster shot on what he thought was an open goal and began doing a multi-part celebration toward his team’s bench.

What he failed to notice was that an opposing defender courageously cleared the shot attempt off the line.

A Copa del Rey red card in the preliminary round of the competition has gone somewhat viral after a player punted the ball into an opponent’s face.

During Wednesday’s game between Astur and Promesas EDF, chaos erupted near the sideline that would see two red cards. Two players were battling for the ball as it went out of play and an Astur player shoved an opponent into the wall close to the sideline.

If an award was given out for “strangest soccer moment of the year” then we have a winner. On Sunday two penalty kicks were awarded for players picking up the ball with their hands during the 2. Bundesliga game between FC Magdeburg and SpVgg Greuther Fürth.

The madness began in the 13th minute when Fürth defender Gideon Jung thought his side had a goal kick. Jung’s goalkeeper rolled the ball to him and when he picked it up, he realized to his horror that it was an actual pass… not to take a goal kick.

Girona sit a provisional 11th in the standings with 12 points from nine matches, while Bilbao are sixth with 14 points.
