LIVERPOOL — Everton's Jarrad Branthwaite and Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored in a pulsating 2-0 home victory over Liverpool in the Merseyside derby on Wednesday that could prove to be the death of the visitors' withering Premier League title hopes.

Everton's first derby victory at Goodison Park in more than 13 years prevented Liverpool from climbing level with Arsenal at the top of the league table. Jürgen Klopp's men are three points behind the Gunners (77) with four games to play.

AGAIN!? — Everton docked two more points for second breach of financial rules

LONDON, April 8 (Reuters) - Everton were docked two more points by the Premier League on Monday (their second points deduction this season) after an independent commission found they had breached the league's Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

The deduction, announced in a Premier League statement, means Everton dropped to 16th place with 27 points, two above the relegation zone.

Everton shocked and outraged after receiving 10-point deduction

Everton became the first Premier League club to be deducted points for breaching profitability and sustainability rules (PSR) on Friday, when the league docked the Merseyside club 10 points over their finances in the 2020-21 season.

An independent commission imposed an immediate deduction which will see Everton drop from 14th in the standings into the relegation zone with four points, above bottom side Burnley on goal difference.

The club described the decision as unjust and said it would appeal.
