A local United States men’s national team fan got an incredible eight hours of sleep Tuesday night after deciding to turn off the USMNT vs. Mexico friendly at halftime. Mexico went on to win the game 2-0 but the fan didn’t see the ending of the game anyway.
“I knew I was in for a rough time when the game kicked off at 9:30 at night,” the fan living in the central time zone said. “I had no idea how boring it would be though.”
New U.S. head coach Mauricio Pochettino was without a litany of key players like Christian Pulisic, Weston McKennie and Gio Reyna, and the USMNT were hardly recognizable.
Mexico dominated the game with the USMNT failing to record a shot in the first half. The well-rested USA fan said the team’s lack of creativity going forward played into his sleepiness taking over.
“I usually fall asleep to ASMR paint drying videos and the USMNT’s performance through that first 45 minutes was just too similar,” the fan said.
“Instead of counting sheep I was counting how many times Brenden Aaronson fell over and asked for a foul. That really factored into my decision to call it a night.”

The local USMNT fan declined to comment on Jiménez’s spectacular goal.
When asked if he regrets missing out on the second half the fan said the benefits of a full eight hours of sleep far outweighed 45 more minutes of watching the USMNT.
“Listen, I got into work this morning feeling refreshed and ready to go. There’s nothing the USMNT were going to do Tuesday night that was worth 45 minutes of my beauty rest. It was basically our C-team anyway in a meaningless game.
"Don’t get me wrong I love this team, but they didn’t earn my viewership against Mexico with their awful play,” the fan said.
Jiménez added an assist in the second half to record Mexico’s first win against the United States since 2019.

The USMNT will be back in action next month for two games against Jamaica in the Concacaf Nations League quarterfinals. The first game will be in Kingston, Jamaica, on Nov. 14 followed by the return leg in St. Louis on Nov. 18.
