Yaya Toure And Actor Idris Elba Team Up To Fight Ebola

For those that have watched The Wire or Luther, you know the bad*ss that Idris Elba is. The talented English actor, whose parents hail from West Africa, has teamed up with Yaya Toure, Patrick Vieira and several other soccer stars in a new campaign to fight Ebola.

The "Africa United" campaign put on by the CDC - the Centers for Disease Control Foundation - was created to raise awareness about the symptoms of Ebola and to provide support for the health workers on the ground in Africa. In the first PSA, titled “We’ve Got Your Back,” soccer players wear the names of health workers on their backs in hopes of showing that the doctors are the real heroes and should be treated as such.

In the next PSA, Idris Elba gives an emotional speech about Ebola to a locker room of soccer players. When asked about the campaign, Elba said, “For me, the battle against Ebola is a personal one. To see those amazing countries in West Africa where my father grew up and my parents married being ravaged by this disease is painful and horrific.” Over 5,600 people have died from the disease so far.
