What Record Will Messi Break Next?

It was only a matter of time. Leo Messi needed 10 more goals at the start of the season to break Telmo Zarra’s all-time La Liga scoring record and, 12 games into the campaign, the legendary Argentine broke the record in typical Messi fashion. La Pulga netted his 20th La Liga hat-trick in Barcelona’s 5-1 victory over Sevilla, giving him 253 career La Liga goals. Check out the video Barcelona made congratulating Messi on his achievement:

So it got us thinking, what records are left for Messi to break?

Well let's take a look at the records he already holds:

  • Most goals in UEFA Champions League History: ✓71 (tied for first)
  • Most goals by a Barcelona player ever: ✓368
  • Most goals in the history of La Liga: ✓253
  • Most goals in El Clasico history: ✓21
  • Most assists in El Clasico history: ✓12

So what records does Messi have left to break?

  • Champions League all-time assists: Needs 9
  • La Liga all-time assists: Needs 6
  • Argentina National Team All-time goal scoring record: Needs 11

I think it's safe to say that Messi will probably break the records above. He's only 27 after all.
