Vini Jr. scores decisive goal vs. RB Leipzig but should he have been sent off 10 minutes earlier?

Real Madrid survived a real scare from RB Leipzig in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday as Vinicius Jr. scored a critical goal in a 1-1 draw and 2-1 victory on aggregate to book a spot in the quarterfinals.

Fans have a big question about Real Madrid’s win. Should Vini. Jr have even been on the field when he scored his goal?

A controversial moment took place in the 54th minute when the Brazilian winger caught Leipzig’s Willi Orbán late on a tackle. When Orbán confronted Vini Jr. about the tackle the Real Madrid man shoved the defender in the upper chest/throat area.

Vini Jr. yellow card vs. RB Leipzig

The referee gave Vini Jr. a yellow card shortly after the skirmish occurred but didn’t go to monitor to look at the incident.

In the 65th minute Vini Jr. finished off a move assisted by Jude Bellingham to double Real Madrid’s aggregate lead.

RB Leipzig will feel aggrieved from the referees in the tie especially from the first leg when they had a goal taken away for a controversial offside call.

The Bundesliga club still could’ve pulled off something special in the Santiago Bernabéu on Wednesday given the number of chances created but ultimately wasted.

It was a night to forget for star forward Loïs Openda. The Belgian has scored 21 goals for Leipzig this season but looked a shadow of himself and squandered a number of chances.

It just wasn’t meant to be for Lawn Ball Sports Leipzig.
