It's Official: Dutch Legend Robin Van Persie Returns To Feyenoord

It's official: there will be a Robin Van Persie Feyenoord homecoming. The 34-year-old will rejoin his youth club from Fenerbahçe.

Feyenoord fans have plenty to celebrate as one of the club's prodigal sons returns home. The team made it official by sharing this emotional video on social media stating "RVP is back".

Van Persie first started playing for Feyenoord in 2001 when he was only 17 years old. In the three following seasons he made 61 appearances and scored 15 goals, showing unquestionable signs of his potential.

Due to an injury crisis in the squad during the 2001-2002 season, van Persie was quickly promoted to the first team.

He was a starter in the 2001-02 UEFA Cup final and received the the KNVB Best Young Talent award.

His youth and talent attracted Arsenal's boss Arsène Wenger in 2004. The London club then made a £2.75 million bid for the young Dutchman and signed him on a 4-year contract.

It took a while for van Persie to make the starting eleven at Arsenal, but once he did there was no turning back. He became a reference for Arsenal's attacking line alongside Thierry Henry.

When Henry left for Barcelona in 2007, van Persie assumed the leading attacking role for the Gunners. Even as he constantly struggled with injuries, the Dutchman managed to score 132 goals for Arsenal thus making the   club's all-time top ten scorers list.

In 2012, van Persie signed for Manchester United in a transfer that shocked many Arsenal fans for whom the Dutchman had become a reference.

Playing for the Red Devils between 2012 and 2015, van Persie managed to score a total 58 goals in 105 appearances.

In 2015 he was sold to Turkish powerhouse Fenerbahçe and now he is back at Feyenoord quite possibly for the remainder of his career.

There is no doubt 'The Flying Dutchman' was a top class player. So sit back and take a look at some of van Persie's highlights below.

Currently, Feyenoord sit fifth in the Erevidisie. Hopefully for them, van Persie will help them improve and make it into European competition spots.
