University Introduces Cristiano Ronaldo 101 Class

Cristiano Ronaldo is a lot of things to a lot of people: icon, hero, sex symbol, teammate, and, if we are being honest, some might say world-class douchebag.

We don’t particularly agree with this last point but, hey, there are people out there who do. What we would have been absolutely certain of - at least, until approximately yesterday - is that nowhere in the world would someone think of Cristiano Ronaldo and say, “Hey! We should create an entire University class about him!”

Well, it looks as if we seriously lack imagination because, against all odds, a university professor has done just that. Luis Aguiar, a sociology professor at the University of British Columbia (Really, Canada? If anywhere, we would have guessed this would be a California thing) has brought Cristiano Ronaldo into the classroom.

While the class is billed as a global citizenship study (and the video lacks any specifics when it comes to curriculum), it seems as if what is being studied is the effect of Ronaldo’s presence as a cultural figure in Portugal. The students seem to be interested in how he became a superstar, and what it means to be a "global citizen." Or maybe they just want to know what it's like to ride on a yacht.

All joking aside, as soccer enthusiasts we would be lying if we said we weren’t interested in this class. Ronaldo is arguably the biggest social figure on the planet and being able to study the causes and ramifications of that would be an amazing opportunity. It’s just a shame that there doesn’t seem to be any actual soccer viewing involved.

So, at the end of the day we are a bit disappointed too, ladies. We know many of you were hoping the class would be a figure drawing class featuring a nude Ronaldo. Some things just aren’t in the cards.
