Why Even Have A Champions League Play-Off When You Can Have A Twitter War?

Nothing like a good Twitter trolling to spice up a Champions League match. İstanbul Başakşehir hosts Sevilla in a Champions League qualifying playoff first leg on Wednesday.

The Turkish club sent a friendly message to the Spanish club, suggesting they’d be much happier winning another Europa League, the tournament into which the loser of the home-and-home series will fall.

Sevilla is indeed an expert at winning the Europa League, claiming the trophy five times since 2006, including three straight from 2014-16. Los Rojiblancos allowed Manchester United to win the Europa League last season after Sevilla qualified for the Round of 32 in the Champions League, reaching the last 16 before losing to Leicester.

Sevilla had the perfect response for Başakşehir.

Twitter, of course, just loved it.

The first leg is 2:45 p.m. EST on Wednesday. The return leg in Seville is next week.
