Real Madrid Has Announced Plans To Start A Women’s Team

Ronaldo’s poor start to the season? Catalonia voting in favor of independence? There is certainly a lot of tumult unfolding in the Spanish capital right now. However, here is one headline Madridistas and others can rejoice in.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has confirmed plans to develop a women’s team. There has been talk of this project for some time but it seems that it will soon be a reality. The fact that Madrid does not have a women’s side has made many football fans scratch their heads, especially when considering that rivals Barcelona have a squad. And a really, really good one at that. FC Barcelona Femeni have won their first four games of the season, scoring 23 goals and conceding 0 in the process.

Perez emphasized that the team will be focusing on training and grooming homegrown talent rather than competing. However, considering how much Madrid loves trophies, it would not be a surprise if the Madrid women soon become a powerhouse.
