Is Miguel Herrera Coming To America?

Miguel Herrera, the man known for his charismatic behavior, fiery temper, and for his quality work as a Head Coach is already being eyed by a potential suitor for his next job. Major League Soccer side, Chicago Fire. The Club has its eyes on El Piojo and may try to land him as their next head coach.

El Tri fans might remember the last Mexican export to Chicago, Cuauhtemoc Blanco. Will a deal be struck as reports suggest? It’s hard to say. It can very well happen or it could be another transfer rumor that goes up in smoke and forgotten in two months.

No one would have expected Giovani dos Santos to leave European soccer for the MLS or Sebastian Giovinco to do the same. For the right price, Chicago Fire could land itself one of the most popular Mexican soccer coaches ever.

Even with his checkered past, El Piojo could be a great asset to any team looking to rejuvenate itself, which is exactly what Chicago Fire needs. It needs a coach that can rejuvenate a club team that has failed to find any consistency or luck in their games. Sitting in last place of the Eastern Conference, the Fire will need a fiery spirit to bring them back to the top of the standings next season.

El Piojo can provide that. His fiery spirit has gotten him into trouble in the past, most notably being fired for reportedly punching a reporter on the way to boarding a plane back to Mexico after having won the Gold Cup.

Since his absence from the El Tri post, Herrera hasn’t taken on any new ventures. With him being available, the new general manager of Chicago Fire, Nelson Rodriguez, who was left in charge after Frank Yallop left the club last week, is looking at the ex El Tri boss Miguel Herrera.

If Herrera takes on the job, he would be welcomed to a club that is familiar with Mexican talent, an environment nurtured by Blanco who played for the club for three seasons.

It would give Herrera the chance to leave a tough experience with El Tri behind him, as long as he does succeed in bringing back Chicago Fire from the depths of the Eastern Conference table. If he fails to do so, it’ll be bad for everyone involved. Herrera would lose the chance to build his reputation back up again and might never have the chance to make a return to El Tri.

El Piojo will have to be careful with his next choice but it would be a great for MLS if El Piojo made it to the league. He would bring charisma to the touchline hardly seen in other team's coaching staff. Let's cross our fingers.
