Javier Mascherano Is Reportedly Pursuing A Transfer To Juventus

Javier Mascherano is reportedly in talks with Juventus regarding a potential summer transfer from Barcelona. Multiple reports are confirming that the 31-year-old Mascherano, who has been unable to agree to a contract extension with the La Liga champions, has agreed to personal terms with Juve, including a three-year contract that will provide him with a considerable raise in wages.

Mascherano played a vital role in the heart of Barcelona’s defense this season. He made 51 appearances in all competitions and helped Barca to a domestic double.

Mascherano still has two years left on his current contract, but a move from being a certain starter to a squad player would not sit well with the Argentine. Barcelona are rumored to be looking to overhaul their defense over the summer, with new central defenders being the main priority.

Barcelona are reportedly unwilling to sell one of their most experienced players, but a decent transfer fee and a request from Mascherano could force the Catalan club’s hand.

While Mascherano’s family is firmly settled in Barcelona following six years in the capital city of Catalonia, this move could be the most lucrative deal in Mascherano’s final years as a professional. Additionally, rather than landing a huge paycheck for playing in China or MLS, Mascherano would be joining a club that has its eyes on European glory.

Barcelona have been quick to deny the Mascherano transfer talk, but another rumor that's gathering steam is Mascherano's club teammate Dani Alves also going to Juventus.

Alves is currently under contract with Barcelona, but reports claim that both Alves and Barcelona would be willing to terminate that deal this summer.
