Is Timo Werner The Fastest Forward On The Planet?

Timo Werner is rapid. As demonstrated in RB Leipzig’s 2-0 victory over Hamburg on Friday, the German international is a devastating one-man counter attack. Like Wayne Rooney in his pomp, Werner is unabashedly direct.

According to the Bundesliga website, Turbo Timo has been clocked at 11.1 seconds over 100 meters. How’d the Stuttgart native get this fast? “I sometimes ran up mountains with my father," he says. "When I was younger it quickly became clear to me that if you want to become a professional, you have to do more.”

It’s that simple. If you want this kind of pace, you just need to start running up mountains with your father.

According to Onefootball, Werner clocked one of the 10 best top speeds in the entire Bundesliga last season at 34.93 km/h — that’s 21.7 miles per hour. That’s not as fast as Usain Bolt’s best of 27.73, but it would also put Werner right near the top five in the Premier League according to Opta.

No Bundesliga forward recorded a higher top speed than Werner and only Shane Long and Jamie Vardy bettered his mark in the EPL.

To go along with his ridiculous pace, Werner has now scored nine goals in his last eight matches for club and country. Leipzig host Monaco in the Champions League on Wednesday, giving Werner a massive opportunity to enhance his burgeoning reputation on the biggest stage in club football.
