He Shoots, He...Raps?

Soccer and hip-hop fans, rejoice! Clint Dempsey, or should we say “Deuce,” will be coming out with a 13-track rap album after the World Cup. Deuce isn’t completely new to the rap game. The U.S. Captain already has a single out called, “Don’t Tread.” Here it is, for those who haven’t seen it.

The USMNT forward, who scored a goal in 30 seconds against Ghana on Monday, spent two weeks in Los Angeles recording the album called "The Redux," with friend and Texas rapper XO, who also collaborated with Dempsey on “Don’t Tread.”

Dempsey told The Wall Street Journal, “We just were having fun with it and it ended up being an album.” The 13-track album is about rags to riches, being “Captain America” and scoring goals - or as Deuce calls it, “banging Gs.”

“We’re not known as a soccer powerhouse – we’re almost known for being soft. But Clint has this edge,” said friend and fellow rapper Mike Chehadé. “He’ll just call you sometimes and start freestyling – he doesn’t even say hello…I’m not saying he’s Eminem, but he’s definitely qualified.”

Be sure to listen to “It's Poppin,” which will be released today at 9pm ET.

This isn’t the first time athletes have hit the mic. Shaquille O’Neal, Kobe Bryant, Roy Jones Jr and many more have explored a music career, but most don’t succeed. Hopefully Dempsey will be the exception.
