Giovani Dos Santos And Oribe Peralta Combine To Lead Mexico To Victory

Mexico’s final tune-up before their World Cup qualifying clash with the USA on November 11th ended in a 1-0 victory over Panama.

For spectators at Toyota Park in Illinois, it was a relatively uneventful night with a largely experimental Mexico side grafting out a victory.

The highlight of the beginning proceedings was probably a mariachi version of “The Star-Spangled Banner”.

Mexico’s starting XI featured Giovani Dos Santos, goalscorer in Saturday’s victory over New Zealand, but the first half featured only one shot on goal while Mexico dominated possession.

Hirving Lozano was introduced at half-time and played a large part in Mexico’s opening goal. Lozano moved the ball across the Panama third before shifting it out wide to Dos Santos. The LA Galaxy attacker squared across the face of goal to Oribe Peralta and he finished inside the far post.

The USA-Mexico rivalry is set to continue in Columbus for the fifth consecutive qualifying cycle. The USA has won the previous four meetings there by repeated scorelines of 2-0.
