Day two of the second round of matches in the UCL provided some surprising and not so surprising results.
After their crushing 5-1 defeat to Real Madrid on the first match day, Basel rebounded and extended their six match unbeaten streak against English opponents in UCL group play to seven. Arsenal also rebounded following their sluggish start against Borussia Dortmund, riding Dany Welbeck’s first career hat trick en route to a 4-1 victory over Galatasaray. Olympiacos failed to build off of their big win against Atletico Madrid on the first match day and lost to Malmo by two goals. Atletico got a big victory against Juventus, while Real Madrid and Dortmund took care of business as planned.
