Didier Drogba Swallows Pride, Rejoins Impact

Didier Drogba is coming back to the Montreal Impact after refusing to play because he was listed as a sub, and missing the team's first two playoff games.

On one hand, MLS fans should feel grateful that players of Drogba's caliber even come to the league, but on the other, why should anyone be thankful that he is doing what he was paid to do? Surely Drogba is a legend, and at one time was one of the most complete strikers in the world, but for someone known to give back to his community, this ordeal was incredibly out of character.

Luckily for Montreal, they have nothing more to worry about as regardless for the reason, Drogba is back, and the club’s designated player will be available to help compete for the cup.

Speaking to the media for the first time since the incident, Drogba said he is prepared to play regardless of his role:

"I've done that in my career, even in Chelsea, you know, in Champions League games," he said. "I started my career as a sub so I don't know why it should be difficult for me to be on the bench.”

Drogba realized that his team is one game away from the conference finals, and returned because it is his chance to add one final trophy to his collection, or he returned to his team after his lawyer reminded him that his refusal to play was a breech in his contract with the club.

"I don't think it's time to create more negativity," he said. "And I think it's really time to enjoy what the team is doing right now and be behind them and say to the fans that we need them to be behind us in New York and support the team."
