Dom Dwyer Becomes First Player In History Of Cuckfield, England To Score Two Goals For America

On Saturday, Dom Dwyer scored his second goal in as many appearances for the USMNT. In doing so, he gave the USA a (temporary) 1-0 lead over Panama in the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup. Panama eventually scored to draw 1-1 with the USA.

More significantly, Dwyer became the ninth player in U.S. history to achieve the feat of scoring a goal in each of his first two games for the national team.

Perhaps you are unimpressed by Dwyer's accomplishment. After all, who remembers the ninth person to reach the summit of Everest? The ninth person to run a four-minute mile? Jeopardy nerds, that's who.

Fear not, for Dom Dwyer is also the first American to do something. He is the first American to be born in Cuckfield, West Sussex, England to then become a U.S. citizen and to promptly score two goals for the USMNT.

If you are wondering whether Cuckfield is even a real place, don't. Here is cartographic proof:

Look, a map of a real place called "Cuckfield." (Photo: Cuckfield Parish Council)

See? We didn't make it up. It even shows the "Recreation Ground" where young Dom likely practiced his back flips. (Don't be alarmed that the map says "You Are Here." You almost certainly are not there. Unless you happen to live on South Street in Cuckfield, England. In which case, hello.)

So, the next time someone asks you about Dom Dwyer and why he is so special, just tell them he is the first Cuckfieldian to score any goals for the United States Men's National Team. That'll shut them up.
