Why Does Everyone Hate Diego Costa?

Diego Costa has been one of the Premier League's best since joining Chelsea, and showed his class Sunday with yet another beauty. Watch as Costa bends it in from beyond the box:

Sunday’s goal was his eighth in just ten games, a vastly different start from last season. The goal also helped him reach 40 premier league goals, and in just 64 league games. That is seven games fewer than it took Sergio Aguero, the striker often considered to be the better of the two.

In reality, both strikers share a similar knack for scoring goals, so why does everyone hate on Costa? Well for one, he’s one of the dirtiest players in the league. Watch as he goes full Suarez and takes a bite out of Gareth Barry:

Of the 86 league games Chelsea has played since his arrival, Costa has missed 22 of them, 10 of which were due to various suspensions. Over time his dirty play has earned him a reputation, and this resulted in him taking another title: this season, Diego Costa is the most fouled player in the league.

Not only does he have a reputation for being dirty, but he also has been inconsistent, and only bagged 12 goals last season in Chelsea’s dismal year under Mourinho. So it is no wonder why he is often the odd man out when discussing the league’s top striker.

Aguero is simply more likeable.
