Colombian Star Trash Talks The US Women’s National Team

We are only a few hours away from the USWNT facing Colombia in the semis of the World Cup and Colombian soccer player Lady Andrade has taken it upon herself to talk a little trash about the Americans.

“They belittle us. They think we’re a team they’re going to walk all over and it will be an easy game for them,” Andrade said in an interview with USA TODAY.

“We’re going to beat them since they like to talk so much.”

Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't recall anyone from the US team saying anything negative about the Colombians. My guess is that’s probably because they aren't considered a rival like Germany or France, and because that's not how they roll.

If you listen to the US players, they mainly talk about their team; not their opponents and certainly not in this way.

This is not the first time Andrade has stirred up a little controversy. She admitted to hitting Abby Wambach in a 2012 match.

“I hit her, what else I can say?” she said with a laugh.

“If you look back at the video you’ll see she hit me too, but we’re Colombia so they don’t want to review the whole episode.”

In that match, the Colombians lost to the US 3-0, which is probably why no one remembers the incident.

We don't know what' the point of all of this. Maybe it's to fire up her teammates by trying to say the US is disrespecting them, which isn't true.

Maybe it's to garner up support for the underdog since the US is a heavy favorite. Or maybe it’s just good old fashioned trash talk from Andrade, trying to get under the US's skin.

We will see later tonight whether or not Andrade's Joe Namath type prediction will come true, or if it is just all talk.
