Champions League Players Looking For Inspiration Need Only Look At The Ball

The Champions League groups were drawn in Mónaco on Thursday but the big news was the unveiling of the official match ball for the competition. The ball keeps the traditional star figures, this time in green, but it’s the writing in the stars that’s sure to capture the attention.

The stars have characterized the official Champions League ball in recent years, of course, accompanied by the logo of this UEFA tournament.

But, in this edition, the ball also has printed quotes from some of the best players in the competition. Among these is James Rodriguez, Colombia captain and a member of Real Madrid, current champion of the Champions League.

"Creativity wins”, those are the words that Rodríguez wrote on the ball with which he hopes to score many goals or assist his teammates with.

Mesut Ozil, Toni Kroos and Gareth Bale also wrote messages: "Play your life, I play mine," writes the Arsenal midfielder Ozil; "Control of the game is everything," says Kroos, Rodriguez’s teammate at Real Madrid; “Be faster than a bullet," says Bale, the Welsh forward who was nominated for the UEFA Best Player in Europe award last year.

The ball will get rolling on September 13 in the biggest European football competition of them all.
