Is Your National Team One Of The Most Hated In The World?

Over the summer, the New York Times conducted a survey on what national teams soccer fans from an assortment of countries disliked the most. Some of the results were surprising (Germans hating Honduras 2nd most, Americans hating America the most) and some were not (Americans hating America the most: now that we think about it, we kind of see where this sentiment would come from). Here is a little run down of the most hated countries, and why they are so hated.

Brazil

It's quite obvious why they are No.1. Brazil has been the most dominant team in World Cup history. They have won the most World Cups and continue to dominate the sport. So, no one's feelings were hurt when they got knocked out of the Cup last year.

Except, you know, their own.

Argentina

Well, if Brazil is hated a lot, you know Argentina isn't too far behind. On a survey taken last year before the World Cup, Argentina was more hated in South America than Brazil, which is strange considering that Brazil has won more World Cups. But maybe it has less to do with the World Cup and more to do with the fact they have won the Copa America 14 times. Oh, and did I mention that Argentina has probably the best soccer player in the world on their team, Lionel Messi,  as captain?

Germany

They are the new kid on this list, but with their World Cup win last year and with the women being ranked No. 1 going into the World Cup this year, Germany is starting to be the Man U of the international scene. Last year's win by the men was the country's fourth World Cup title, second only to Brazil.

The United States

Politics and a reputation for being cocky have made the United States few friends in international soccer, at least on the men's side of things. But the women’s team may be more hated than the men’s because they have actually won the Cup a few times and continue to be one of the top teams in the sport.
