The USWNT Debut New Kits For The Rio Olympics

The US women’s national team will take to the pitch in Rio this summer wearing a distinctly different home kit from the ones debuted with the new US Soccer badge earlier this year.

This kit was designed specifically for use in the Olympics because of an Olympic charter that mandates the absence of federation crests. Instead, the USA’s controversial new ‘Captain America’ crest will be replaced with simple “USA” lettering.

The result is clean, simple and extremely elegant. Also of note is the change in sleeve color. The blue-colored sleeves have been replaced with platinum, and the socks have received a significant upgrade — going from plain white to a gradual fade from white to blue.

The USA was drawn into Group G of the Women’s tournament, alongside New Zealand, France and Colombia. The USA kick off their tournament on August 3 against New Zealand in Belo Horizonte.

The USWNT is four-time champions of the Olympic Games, winning the last three editions of the tournament. They’ve only failed to win gold on one occasion, in 2000 when they were defeated by Norway in extra time.
