Talented US Forward Johannsson Heading to Bundesliga, Pending Medical

American international Aron Johannsson is reportedly moving to Werder Bremen for the 2015/16 Bundesliga season. AZ Alkmaar, the club Johannsson departs,  announced the transfer on Twitter.

Johannsson in a skillful forward who is confident on the ball in tight situations in the attacking third, but he lacks any sort of world-class physical ability. Still, his agility and keenness for the back of the net allowed him to score 38 goals in 84 games for AZ.

Johannsson chose to play for the USMNT instead of Iceland, and he is one of the most talented, if inconsistently productive, forwards that the United States has.

Werner Bremen contacted one of the assistant coaches of the USMNT, Andreas  Herzog, when scouting Johannsson. Herzog dictated some of what was discussed

"I've told them that Aron is a very interesting player. Aron Johannsson is definitely a player, who will score a load of goals in Bundesliga. He is a pure goal-getter with strong finishing qualities."

The move to the Bundesliga is undoubtedly a good one for Johannsson. AZ’s Eredivisie is a solid league, but it is simply not of the same quality as the German league. Johannsson will face stingier, more frustrating defenses while also having the opportunity to play in one of the highest scoring leagues in the world. The goals will be there for the taking, the only thing that remains to be seen is whether or not Johannsson has the quality to take them.
