Mexico And Trinidad & Tobago Just Played The Craziest Game Ever

The Gold Cup's group stage was pretty noneventful until last night's game between Mexico and Trinidad & Tobago.

Wait, let me rephrase. The Gold Cup's group stage was pretty noneventful until the second half of last night's game between Mexico and Trinidad & Tobago, because this goal from Paul Aguilar was all that happened in the first.

Carlos Vela added another goal just after the break and it looked like Mexico would cruise to victory.

But they didn't. Keron Cummings pulled one back in the 55th minute.

Then Kenwyne Jones leveled it three minutes later.

Then Cummings broke Mexico's heart (and almost broke the net) with this ridiculous volley in the 67th minute.

Mexico were panicking, launching ball after ball into the box and putting a ton of pressure on Trinidad & Tobago's defense. But T&T wouldn't break.

Until Andres Guardado broke them in the 88th minute, leveling it once again.

That's a pretty exciting game, right? A comeback from 2-0 down in the second half to take the lead? A sweet volley in the 88th minute to tie it after a different sweet volley put Trinidad ahead?

But it wasn't over. Kenwyne jones, scorer of Trinidad's second goal, deflected a Mexico cross into his own net less than a minute into stoppage time. The Dude behind him fell over like a crumbling statue. And Mexico emerged the victors.

Except that's not what happened. Joevin Jones, who is our new personal hero, won a corner in the 93rd minute, and went to take it himself. While he was standing there, Mexico fans pelted him with trash. The field looked like the front yard of a fraternity house the morning after a double kegger.

They were still throwing trash when Jones, demonstrating considerable testicular fortitude, took the corner (a water bottle actually bounced in front of the ball just as he was taking it) and put it right on the head of Yohance Marshall, who put it right into the goal.

Then the game was over, but we could have watched it go on forever.
