Former Chelsea Player Jimmy Greaves Has Stroke

Once again we start off the news week with sad news coming from England. Former Chelsea and England Tottenham forward Jimmy Greaves has had a stroke.

Greaves, 75, is in ICU as of Sunday.

Statements from his former teammates and clubs are pouring in.

"Everyone at the club wishes Jimmy Greaves a speedy recovery after he suffered a stroke yesterday," Tottenham said in a statement.

"Our thoughts are with Jimmy and his family at this difficult time."

Early in his career, Greaves established himself as a prolific striker with Chelsea for whom he scored a then club record 124 league goals, Greaves then moved to Tottenham in 1961 and scored 266 times in 379 appearances -- a record that still stands.

Greaves was also part of England's 1968 World Cup team, but was injured. His replacement Geoff Hurst sent his well wishes too.

"Thinking of my friend and one of our greats this morning, wishing him all the best and a speedy recovery."

Greaves was scheduled to be inducted into Tottenham's Hall of Fame May 13th.

No late word on his condition.
