Personally, we have nothing against the French. They gave us Zidane. As far as we are concerned they could start World War III and we wouldn’t be able to get that mad.
We can’t speak for the rest of the country though, and this goal scored by Christen Press probably tickles a lot of people’s f***-the-Frenchy bone. It tickles something for us to, but that’s more because it’s an absolutely world-class run by Press, and not because we regard the French as lower than a dog running away with its tail between its legs.
We are willing to bet the coaches of the USWNT gave the team an earful after losing 2-0 to this same French team earlier in the year. And it sure looks like Press heard them loud and clear.
