Moyes Gets The Boot

Time has finally ran out for David Moyes. The heir to Sir Alex Ferguson didn't do much to be proud of in his first year, and was officially sacked Tuesday morning.

It was reported yesterday that the former Everton man was set to lose his job either in the coming weeks or maybe even as soon as this week, and it turns out it was the latter of the two.

Moyes, who was signed on a six year contract, was only in charge for 10 months. Just like most, we here at The18 suspected Moyes was on a tight rope. Lets look at a couple of the unfortunate records Moyes tallied up in his first and last year at Old Trafford:

  • Manchester United is guaranteed to finish the season with its lowest point total ever in the Premier League

  • Worst record at home in over a decade

  • Failed to qualify for Champions League for the first time since 1995

  • Lost three games in a row for the first time since the 2001 season

  • First ever home loss to Swansea

  • First ever home loss to Newcastle (1972), West Brom (1978) and Stoke (1984)

  • First time ever losing home and away to Everton, Manchester City and Liverpool since the Premier League's inception

Moyes never seemed to look comfortable at Old Trafford and dealt with inter-squad claims and fallouts the entire season. Rio Ferdinand and Robin van Persie made snide remarks about his management style and now Danny Welbeck is reported to be pondering about his future with the club.

The Red Devils can still qualify for the Europa League without Moyes. Long time midfielder Ryan Giggs will take over as a player-manager, and the squad must focus their attention to Saturday when they will surely need a victory verse a Norwhich team fighting against relegation.

Distractions will be aplenty this week at Carrington, as the team searches for a new manager and tries to finish out the season. ESPNFC said sources reported that the club has already made moves to towards bringing Louis van Gaal to Old Trafford. Van Gaal will leave his post as the Dutch boss after the World Cup, but United is prepared to keep an open mind about the posistion and will investigate other high profile options.
