The Chicago Fire Made A Mistake Signing Bastian Schweinsteiger

The Chicago Fire made a critical mistake in signing German legend Bastian Schweinsteiger away from Manchester United.

Obviously, the move was to create some sort of leadership within the Fire locker room, and in that case the Fire did a fantastic job in bringing in Schweinsteiger. However, that would be filling just one of the many holes that the Fire have.

Last season, the Chicago Fire finished with an overall record of 7-10-17 to find themselves at the bottom of the Eastern Conference.

Recently, the Fire lost 4-0 to Atlanta United, in a game in which they never had a chance as they took on the speedy new MLS squad. Schweinsteiger is simply too slow for the MLS game, and will not have any help from his Fire teammates.

The signing of Schweinsteiger will not provide the assistance that this team will need if they have any hopes of making a splash in the world of the MLS. He definitely will be able to educate the younger players, and inspire them in some way, but the aging German legend will only be able to do so much for this team.

One has to wonder what the Fire upper management were thinking when they brought in Schweinsteiger, as he is at the tail-end of his career.
